AAP - WHO WE ARE
We are a multidisciplinary community of psychotherapists dedicated to developing the person of the therapist. Our mission is to invigorate and support the psychotherapist’s quest for excellence and growth through authentic interpersonal engagement.
AAP - CORE VALUES
Courage to risk and willingness to change
Balancing confrontation and compassion
Commitment to authenticity with responsibility
Honoring the individual and the community
WHAT TO EXPECT
Using a case presentation from a pre-selected group member, Steve Van Wagoner, PhD, CGP, FAGPA, will demonstrate how experiential supervision groups provide space for clinicians to access unconscious associations to the clinical material presented.
A group of 8 volunteers will participate in a live supervision process group while all other attendees observe. These fishbowl participants will volunteer at the start of the demonstration to allow for an authentic and spontaneous experience. We invite you to consider being a volunteer. In addition, if you’d like to volunteer to give a case presentation for the supervision group, please email us.
Following the supervision group, Dr. Van Wagoner will lead an interactive large group discussion exploring transference and countertransference related to the case study as demonstrated by the fishbowl experience.
After our lunch break, we will have five afternoon process groups.
Following the afternoon process groups, we will commence with a large-group experience, also known as community meeting. Community meeting is an integral part of many AAP events and is a leaderless space where we witness, listen, reflect, and dialogue with each other. Similar to a Quaker meeting, participants are encouraged to speak when they feel moved to do so, often reflecting on their personal experience of the workshop.
